Hidden in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, the House from A Christmas Story is one of the most recognizable movie locations in Ohio. Used for the exterior and select interior scenes in the 1983 holiday classic, the home has since been restored to look almost exactly as it did in the film, turning it into a year-round attraction for fans of all ages.

Walking through the house feels like stepping directly into the movie. From the famous leg lamp glowing in the window to Ralphie and Randy’s bedroom upstairs, nearly every room is recreated with incredible attention to detail. Across the street, the museum expands the experience with original props, costumes, behind-the-scenes photos, and memorabilia from the film, including Randy’s snowsuit, the classroom chalkboard, and one of the original Red Ryder BB guns used during filming.

The house itself has a pretty incredible history. Director Bob Clark reportedly searched more than 20 cities before choosing Cleveland as the filming location, partly because of Higbee’s department store downtown and the nostalgic look of the Tremont neighborhood. Years later, entrepreneur Brian Jones purchased the home off eBay in 2004 and spent years restoring it frame-by-frame to match the movie before opening it to the public in 2006.

Whether you grew up watching the movie every Christmas or just want to experience one of Ohio’s most famous filming locations, this is easily one of the most unique museums in the state.
