A Bucket List Experience in West Liberty

Hidden beneath the countryside of West Liberty, Ohio Caverns is one of the most incredible natural wonders in the state. Known as “America’s Most Colorful Caverns,” this underground attraction stretches for nearly a mile and features crystal formations, winding passageways, and vibrant mineral colors that honestly do not feel real.

The caverns were first discovered in 1897 after a local farmhand noticed water disappearing into the ground, eventually uncovering what would become Ohio’s largest cave system. Today, visitors can explore multiple guided tours that take you deep underground through rooms filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and massive formations like the famous Crystal King, the largest stalactite in Ohio.

What makes Ohio Caverns stand out is how immersive the experience feels. The lighting, colors, and scale of the caverns make it feel more like something you would expect to find out west rather than in Ohio. Whether you are visiting for the history, geology, or just looking for something completely different to do, this is easily one of the most unique attractions in the state.
